Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has revealed that Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi will return ahead of the club’s final Premier League match of the season against Chelsea at the City Ground.
Santo, in an update, said: “He had surgery and, thank God, it went well. He’s now under observation. We’re still waiting for the doctors to allow visits, but his family is with him. We are concerned, of course, but optimistic.
“The information we have is that he’ll need at least five days of observation. Hopefully, all goes well, and next week he can rejoin the team and be around us again.
“Believe me, he’s a wonderful boy. It’s been a very tough season for him, and we all feel deeply for him.”
Awoniyi recently suffered a serious injury after colliding with the post during a match at the City Ground, resulting in a ruptured intestine.
He was immediately hospitalised and placed in a medically induced coma.
The club later confirmed that the forward underwent successful surgery.
