Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili failed to compete during the 100m event at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Her inability to participate was despite the claim by the Minister of Sports John Enoh, that the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and Athletes Federation of Nigeria (AFN) are to be held responsible with an assurance that those found culpable won’t go unpunished.
Days after, nothing has been heard about it.
Two Entries For 100m
Only Rosemary Chukwuma and Tima Godbless are entered and took part in the competition on Friday.
In a fresh outpour of anger, Ofili again took to X platform on Friday to demand for accountability and punishment.
She wrote, “Sadly, nothing has been done… I’m yet to see or hear anyone is being punished for what the NOC and AFN did to me. Athletes shouldn’t be getting punished for things out of their control.
“Who assigned federations and/or Olympic committees to enter athletes into Olympic Games? Is it World Athletics? If so, should they not hold them accountable when they fail to do their job by not entering athletes in events they qualify and want to compete?”
AFN Immediate Denial
On Wednesday evening, Ofili frist raised concerns that she was excluded from the 100m event by the AFN, despite having qualified.
The AFN denied the exclusion, stating they had registered her for the event.
Sole High Jumper
Meanwhile, Temitope Adeshina, Nigeria’s high jump record holder crashed out of the Olympics on Friday.
She could only manage a height of 1.88 metres, which was not enough to take her to the next round.
Her personal best is 1.97 metres. Six athletes went through with that leader jumping 1.95 metres.
