Egypt’s Supply Minister Ali Moselhy has disclosed that the country’s strategic reserves of wheat is sufficient to meet the country’s consumption needs for the next five months.
Speaking on Sunday, he made the announcement during the opening of the wheat harvest season in the east of Al-owainat area, which was attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
According to the minister, the government has purchased two million tons of local wheat since the beginning of the harvest season and expects this quantity to reach four million tons by the end of the season. The strategic reserve of rice is enough for 3.1 months, sugar enough for seven months, and vegetable oil enough for four months.

Egypt is the largest wheat importer in the world, and the government is taking steps to reduce its reliance on wheat imports by increasing local production. The government’s target is to produce 8.5 million tons of wheat this year, up from 8.1 million tons last year.
