Cairo University’s Faculty of Medicine has earned top honors in a recent international ranking, emerging as the leading medical institution in both Egypt and Africa, according to TV BRICS.
Recognized as the oldest medical school in the Middle East, the Faculty of Medicine secured first place across more than ten medical disciplines—including pharmacology, public health, dermatology, gastroenterology, anesthesiology, surgery, ophthalmology, and nuclear medicine.
The university also made a strong global showing, with several specialties ranking among the top 150 worldwide. Notably, it placed 78th in toxicology, 112th in urology, and 116th in plastic surgery.
In total, over 20 disciplines at Cairo University’s medical faculty hold leading positions nationally and maintain consistently high rankings across Africa.
The University’s officials credited this achievement to the dedication of its academic staff and the high standards of its scientific research.
The top 10 medical universities ranking in Africa is currently largely dominated by Egyptian and South African universities, raising concerns about the quality of education investments in Western and Eastern Africa.
South Africa’s University of Cape Town, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and the University of Pretoria are some of the other leading medical universities on the continent.
Other Egyptian medical universities that came out tops in the latest rankings are Ain Shams University, Alexandria University and Mansoura University.
