An Italian coach, Riccardo Bardine, has been drafted to lead the Nigeria team at the upcoming 2025 African Senior Fencing Championships, scheduled for Lagos between 25 and 29 June.
This was disclosed by the Nigerian Fencing Federation (NFF) in a statement on Monday.
According to the NFF, Bardine’s appointment is part of a newly launched four-year strategic partnership between the NFF and the Italian Fencing Federation.
The collaboration aims to fast-track the growth of fencing in Nigeria through technical assistance, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Renowned in international fencing circles, Bardine will arrive in Lagos in June to lead an intensive two-week training camp for both Nigerian coaches and athletes.
The 39-year-old coach brings a wealth of experience as a certified fencing trainer and strength and conditioning specialist, with added expertise in Paralympic sports.
