African Champions, Senegal, have crashed out of the ongoing 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, after they failed to beat Columbia in their last group match.
Their performance before exiting elicited surprises after they went into the competition following their perfect run, which saw them win all their matches during this year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.
CAF Excitement
However, elated by the performance of other three African representatives including Nigeria, Gambia and Tunisia which has advanced them to the round of 16, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has showered encomioms.
On Monday, May 29, 2023, CAF took to its Twitter handle to celebrate the three African teams left in the competition.
“Three African teams are through to the #U20WC knockouts! keep making us proud 🙌,” the tweet on CAF Twitter handle read.
Group Finish And Knockout Schedule
For Nigeria, their team popularly known as Flying Eagles finished third in Group D and progressed as one of the third best placed teams.
They will take on hosts Argentina in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Gambia topped Group F and are drawn with Uruguay in the first knockout stage, while Tunisia who placed third in Group E will face Brazil.
