The Government of Ghana has condemned a drone strike near Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates that left two Ghanaian nationals injured amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 11, when a drone strike was reported in the vicinity of the airport, one of the region’s busiest aviation hubs.
According to a statement issued in Accra by the Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs, authorities in the UAE informed the government that two Ghanaian citizens sustained injuries during the incident.
The statement confirmed that the victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Dubai. Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE have since visited them to provide consular support.
The ministry, however, assured that the injuries suffered by the victims were not life-threatening and expressed optimism about their recovery.
“Their injuries are not critical and we expect full recovery soon. We therefore urge calm as we continue to extend consular assistance and collaborate closely with host authorities,” the statement said.
The government also strongly condemned the attack, stressing that incidents targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure threaten public safety.
It warned that such strikes pose significant risks to civilians and vital international transport hubs, particularly during periods of heightened geopolitical tension.
The ministry added that Ghana is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and remains in constant contact with relevant authorities.
It also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad while supporting ongoing consultations at the United Nations aimed at achieving a ceasefire and restoring stability in the region.
