Ghanaian authorities have explained that it officially granted indefinite residence permits to around 500 Ivorian refugees, in reinforcement of its long-standing commitment to humanitarian support and regional cooperation.
The announcement was made during a formal ceremony attended by government officials, where the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, handed over the permits.
He urged the recipients to comply fully with Ghana’s laws, noting that the permits could be revoked if regulations are violated.
“This initiative underscores Ghana’s dedication to providing a safe, stable, and dignified environment for refugees and asylum seekers,” the minister stated.
The Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana, Assiélou Félix Tanon, expressed his gratitude to the Ghanaian government for its ongoing support and hospitality. He also commended Minister Muntaka for his leadership in facilitating the residency process.
Representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Ghana Refugee Board, and the Ghana Immigration Service were also present.
They praised the initiative as a meaningful step toward the integration and protection of displaced populations in the region.
