With two days to kick-off, defending champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress arrived in Abidjan, capital of Cote d’Ivoire, Wednesday evening, ahead of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Tournament.
The competition is scheduled between July 25 and August 3.
Heritage Times HT reports that Nigeria has won the competition a record four times consecutively.
The Nigerian team beat another basketball powerhouse, Senegal, to win the title in the last edition.
The 2025 AfroBasket Women will be the 29th edition of the tournament, which will happen in Cote d’Ivoire for the first time, clinching the hosting rights in March 2024.
Only four out of the 12 participating teams will qualify for one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
