A fatal accident on Saturday afternoon has claimed up to 20 persons returning from the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Heritage Times HT reports that among those who reportedly died are Athletes, Officials and Journalist.
The sports men and women from Kano State were being transited in a Coaster bus when the tragic incident happened along the Kano-Zaria highway.
The incident, according to a trending video, happened about 50 kilometers to Kano after the bus appeared to have skid off a bridge at Dakatsalle village.
The Kano State Sports Commission Chairman, Umar Bala Fagge, confirmed that the crashed bus was carrying up to 30 athletes.
Team Kano finished on the 13th position out of 37 States/Teams that participated during the two-week sporting competition.
Delta State emerged overall best with over 100 gold medals, while Ogun and Bayelsa States finished second and third respectively.
