The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has strongly condemned the tragic killing of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, describing the incident as senseless and deeply disturbing. Christian was allegedly beaten to death following a romantic dispute involving fellow Nigerians identified as Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze.
This was contained in a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations on behalf of the Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in which NiDCOM expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.
The Commission noted that the loss of a young life under such circumstances is painful and unacceptable, stressing that no family deserves such grief.
NiDCOM called on relevant Indian authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation into the matter, with a view to ensuring that justice is served. The Commission emphasized the importance of due process and accountability in handling the case.
Beyond the call for justice, NiDCOM urged Nigerians living abroad to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and to act as their brothers’ keepers at all times. It reminded members of the diaspora that their conduct in host countries reflects directly on Nigeria’s image globally.
“Violence has no place among us. As ambassadors of our great nation, we must choose dialogue, unity, respect, and lawfulness in every situation,” Dabiri-Erewa counseled.
She however added that collective responsibility is key to building a stronger and more positive Nigerian diaspora community.
