The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that Nigerian-British boxing champion Anthony Joshua was among several people injured in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Heritage Times HT reports that the accident occurred in the Makun area of Ogun State, near Sinoma and before Danco. Victims, including Joshua, were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, the Nigerian Police told newsmen at the scene.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasey, said the command received reports of a crash involving multiple victims along the busy highway. “The Ogun State Police Command confirms a road accident today in front of Sinoma, before Danco, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway,” Babasey stated. “Anthony Joshua and other injured persons have been rushed to the hospital. Further updates will be communicated,” he added.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the accident occurred when the vehicle conveying the boxer collided with a stationary truck. The Lexus SUV, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, was reportedly involved in the crash under circumstances that are still being investigated by authorities.
A source involved in the rescue operation disclosed that Joshua sustained minor injuries, while two other individuals reportedly died at the scene of the accident.
Another eyewitness, identified as Adeniyi Orojo, said the crash happened just before Danco Filling Station along the expressway.
The incident comes days after Joshua secured a high-profile victory over American boxer Jake Paul in a heavyweight bout tagged “Judgment Day,” held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, United States.
Police said investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
