Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has announced that senior officials from Nigeria and the European Union (EU) will meet in Abuja on 1 and 2 July 2025 for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuggar said the upcoming Senior Officials Meeting is a crucial step in preparing for the Nigeria-EU Ministerial Meeting scheduled for later this year.
The two-day dialogue will be co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa, Director of the Regions Department at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Mathieu Briens, Deputy Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
According to the minister, the meeting will cover a broad spectrum of issues central to the Nigeria-EU partnership, including peace and security, trade and investment, education, social protection, and governance.
Other areas on the agenda include climate change, energy transition, digital innovation, migration, humanitarian challenges, and scientific cooperation.
Ambassador Tuggar emphasised that Nigeria and the EU enjoy a long-standing, multifaceted partnership grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to multilateralism and a rules-based international order.
The discussions are expected to shape concrete outcomes that will further consolidate both sides’ development priorities, as Nigeria continues to position itself as a strategic partner in the West African sub-region.
