Nigeria and Finland have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following a high-level diplomatic meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, and the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who confirmed that the engagement took place recently in Abuja.
According to the statement, discussions during the visit spanned several strategic sectors central to both countries’ development priorities and global commitments.
The two officials examined opportunities for collaboration in digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity advancement, internal security technology, sustainable mining practices, healthcare innovation, renewable energy expansion, modern agriculture, and enhanced multilateral cooperation. Ambassador Selin also informed the Ministry of Finland’s intention to establish a Trade Office in Lagos, describing it as a step toward facilitating stronger economic ties and expanding Finland’s commercial footprint in Nigeria.
Ambassador Ahmed reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to consolidate ongoing initiatives and explore new avenues for cooperation, emphasizing the country’s interest in partnerships that drive innovation, enhance national capabilities, and support long-term socio-economic growth. He further commended Finland’s constructive engagements across the country and welcomed the plans to scale up economic and diplomatic activities.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides acknowledging that Nigeria and Finland are positioned at an important moment in their bilateral relationship, one marked by shared ambitions, complementary strengths, and a mutual commitment to promoting peace, sustainable development, technological advancement, and global cooperation.
