Two President Federation Cup winners (Male and Female) on Saturday emerged in Nigeria after pulsating final in Lagos State.
While Kwara United clinched their first cup in the men’s category, Rivers Angels won 10th unprecedented title, affirming their dominance in the long age competition.
Heritage Times HT reports that Kwara United emerged winners with 3-2 scoreline after defeating Abakaliki FC via a penalty shootout.
Their victory followed a tense 0-0 draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
This marks the first time Kwara United has lifted the prestigious national trophy since the creation of Kwara State.
The club is now expected to represent Nigeria at next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, which it’s procedure kicks off in September, 2025.
Women Battle
Earlier, Rivers Angels edged Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The Jewel of Rivers trailed 2-0 at the break but rallied to win the trophy for the 10th time.
Hard Fought Triumph
Olusola Shobowale gave Nasarawa United the lead after seven minutes following poor defending inside the Rivers Angels box.
Shobowale doubled the advantage for Chris Danjuma’s side 10 minutes later.
Rivers Angels fought back in the second half, with Taiwo Ajibade reducing the deficit three minutes before the hour mark.
Taiwo Afolabi restored parity for the defending champions in the 62nd minute.
The game went straight into penalties after 90 minutes of thrilling action.
Rivers Angels converted four kicks, while Nasarawa Amazons put in two.
