The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to evacuate its citizens from Israel and Iran amid escalating tensions and military confrontations between the two countries.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa late Tuesday, the government said arrangements are being finalized for an emergency evacuation of stranded Nigerians in both nations.
“In light of the growing conflict between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Government is putting final measures in place to evacuate Nigerians currently in affected areas,” the statement said.
Nigerians in Israel and Iran have been urged to observe all security precautions and immediately contact the nearest Nigerian Embassy or Mission for registration and guidance. The ministry emphasized the importance of complying with local safety directives and remaining in close contact with Nigerian diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran.
The government also praised the efforts of Nigerian missions in both countries for their dedication to supporting citizens during the crisis and assured that it is working with international partners to ensure a safe and timely evacuation.
“The Ministry commends the commitment of our Missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran in reaching out to affected communities and assures the public of the government’s unwavering dedication to the safety of its citizens, both at home and abroad,” the statement added.
In addition to the evacuation efforts, Nigeria renewed its call for peace, urging Israel and Iran to pursue diplomatic solutions, respect humanitarian laws, and prioritize the protection of civilians.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria calls for an immediate end to hostilities and encourages all parties to embrace dialogue. Nigeria remains committed to peaceful conflict resolution and global stability,” the ministry said.
