Some Nigerian players abroad gave a good account of themselves to help their respective clubs earn positive results over the weekend.

However, it was a different ball game for some others who had a decent outing but unfortunately featured on the losing side. The Heritage Times brings to insights as to how these players fared as the league slowly rolls into a wrap.

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen scored a brace as his Serie A Napoli defeated 9-man Chievo Verona 2-1 in their clash on Sunday afternoon.

Osimhen opened scoring for Napoli in the 14th minute, and doubled the lead in the 71st minute, slotting home Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s pass.

The 22-year-old has now scored 13 goals in all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored from the spot for Union Berlin as they played out a 1-1 draw with Stuttgart in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday.

Awoniyi put the home team in front, four minutes before the break. The 24-year-old has now scored 11 goals in 20 league appearances for Union Berlin this season.

In Turkey, Anthony Nwakaeme scored his 11th league goal and also provided his 10th assist in the Turkish Super Lig this season, as Trabzonspor beat visiting Goztepe 4-2 on Saturday.

The one-cap Super Eagles striker has now scored five goals in his last five games for Trabzonspor.

Also in action in the game was his compatriot Obinna Nwobodo, who featured for 90 minutes in the colours of Goztepe.

While in Spain, Umar Sadiq continued his impressive scoring form for Almeria in the Spain Segunda Division, as he scored twice in their 3-3 home draw against Lugo on Saturday night.

The Super Eagles striker, who was named Spanish Segunda Division Player of the Month for February last Friday, opened scoring for his side in the 13th minute, and scored his second goal of the game four minutes after the break.

The 25-year-old has now scored 15 goals in 26 league appearances for his club this season.

Zaidu Sanusi got an assist for FC Porto in their 4-0 win over Tondela in the Portugal’s top-flight on Sunday.

Sanusi has now recorded one goal with one assist for Porto in the league this season.

In the Spanish top-flight, Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze was in action as Villarreal edged Celta Vigo 1-0 in Saturday’s La Liga game.

Chukwueze had a decent performance as he tormented the Celta Vigo defence. Appearing in his 17th game, the Nigerian international could have written his name on the score sheet but his low drive shot failed to hit target.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers struck a late goal that handed Feyenoord a 2-1 victory over PEC Zwolle in an Eredivisie match on Sunday at Mac Park Stadium.

Dessers scored in the 89th minute to stun the home side and hand maximum points to his team. The 27-year-old has now recorded six league goals this season.

In Denmark, Nigerian striker Stephen Odey and his compatriot Tosin Kehinde, were the scorers for Randers who defeated Silkeborg 2-1 in the Danish Super League on Sunday.

Tosin Kehinde opened the scoring in the 7th minute before Odey doubled the lead in the 62 minute.

The former MFM striker has now scored six league goals, and has taken his tally to 12 in all competitions this season.

In the Premier League, Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action as Leicester City lost 2-0 to Arsenal in Sunday’s Premier League game at the Emirate Stadium.

Ndidi, who was making his 18th appearance in the colours of the Foxes. He was however, substituted in the 61st minute for Nampalys Mendy.

It was Iheanacho’s 17th appearance for Leicester as he was also substituted in the 74th minute for Daka.

Emmanuel Dennis was impressive for relegation battlers Watford who gave their survival hopes a boost with a hard fought 2-1 win at Southampton in Sunday’s Premier League tie.

William Troost-Ekong, who missed Watford’s last game due to a knock, was back in the squad and was an unused substitute.
