FIBA has ranked Nigeria’s Women Basketball team, D’Tigress, as number one in Africa, few days to the official kick-off of the 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled for Paris, France.
According to the power ranking, Nigeria is currently ranked 12th in the world.
Nigeria are back to-back champions of Afrobasket, winning a record of four editions in a row.
The Power Rankings, which is different from the FIBA Rankings is the calculation of the team’s strength relative to other teams that will compete at the Olympics.
The United States continues to maintain its stronghold at the pinnacle of the world rankings on the number one spot.
Belgium, France, Japan, and Australia occupy second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
In the sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and 10th places are China, Canada, Spain, Germany and Serbia, while Puerto Rico are seated on the 11th position.
