In a major push to revolutionize global agriculture and boost food security, the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Bayer, and Google have jointly launched AgriConnect — a global initiative aimed at transforming the lives of 250 million smallholder farmers and creating millions of jobs in the agribusiness sector.
Speaking during the World Bank Group Annual Meetings on Tuesday, President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, described the initiative as a game-changer for Africa’s agricultural transformation agenda. “The AgriConnect initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to transform Africa’s agriculture,” said Dr. Ould Tah.
According to the partners, the programme will initially target countries with the greatest potential for agri-food job creation, focusing on digital innovation, sustainable farming, and inclusive private sector participation.
Heritage Times HT reports that AgriConnect aligns with the AfDB’s Feed Africa strategy, which seeks to unlock the continent’s agricultural potential and strengthen value chains for food security and economic growth.
