Borussia Dortmund last minute hope of winning Bundesliga title after 11 years was dashed on the final matchday of the season, after perennial winners Bayern Munich grabbed it again.
With the latest victorious capture, Bayern have now won the title a record 11 times, two triumphs more than Juventus among European top five leagues.
Italian giants Juve comes close with nine victories in a row.
Crushed Expectation, Another Bayern Cruising Time
Before a ball was kicked, Dortmund knew that a win or simply matching Bayern’s result at FC Koln would be enough to seal their first Meisterschale crown since 2012.
But their expectations fell short after they played out a 2-2 draw against Mainz.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich were bidding to become the first team to win the Bundesliga title having started the final day in second since 1999-2000, when they beat Bayer Leverkusen to the crown.
And with just one minute of regular time remaining, Dortmund was indeed set to be crowned champion.
Although it was trailing 2-1 in its own game against Mainz, Bayern had conceded an 81st minute equalizer against Köln, putting Dortmund a point ahead in the table.
Dortmund’s fans’ hope eventual crashed after it turn out that Bayern consolidated and cruised with win.
There comes final whistle blew soon after, however, and Dortmund’s players slumped to the ground, mourning a title that, somehow, slipped through their fingers in the most agonising fashion.
