World record holder Tobi Amusan has won a third national title in a row in the women’s 100 metres hurdles event at the ongoing trials ahead of 2023 World Athletics Championship.
The national trials, a prerequisite for athletes to attend international competition, is organised by the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) in Benin, Edo state capital.
This is Amusan’s third national title in a row, having swept to victories at the trials in 2021 and 2022.
During the event this year, Amussn wasn’t at her personal best but still managed to scale the hurdle first with a time of 12.70 seconds and at least 20 meters ahead of her competitors in a one-sided final of the event.
Sustained Exploits
Few days ago, she claimed her first Diamond League win of the season with a stunning finish in 12.52 seconds at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden.
That was after she finished second and third at Diamond League and Golden Spike competitions respectively.
Amusan grabbed headlines both local and internationally last year, when she became the first Nigerian world champion at the World championship.
The 25-year-old clocked a wind-aided 12.12 seconds to emerge world champion in 100m hurdles.
She later won at the Commonwealth Games.
