Nigeria and Angola have signed a bilateral agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic and Official passports, in a move aimed at strengthening government-to-government engagements between both countries.
The development was contained in a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the formal signing ceremony.
The agreement was endorsed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, signed the accord on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Tete Antonio, appended his signature on behalf of the Republic of Angola.
According to the statement, the visa waiver agreement is expected to facilitate smoother official interactions by eliminating administrative bottlenecks for diplomats and government officials holding Diplomatic and Official/Service passports.
The Ministry noted that the initiative would enhance bilateral cooperation, encourage high-level exchanges, and reinforce institutional partnerships between Abuja and Luanda.
It further stated that the agreement aligns with wider continental objectives to promote the free movement of persons, deepen regional integration, and advance Africa’s collective development agenda under the framework of the African Union.
