Few days after emerging Women’s team of the year at the recent CAF awards in Marrakech, Morocco, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have now been ranked 34th in the overall position globally by FIFA.
The latest ranking means that Africa’s best team dropped two places from their last 32nd place three months ago and have ended the year on that note.
Drop Ball, Africa’s Number One
The previous ranking which was released in August saw the Falcons move eight places from 40th to 32nd, due to their impressive performance at this year’s women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
However, the nine-time African champions maintained their number-one spot in Africa, despite the drop on the world stage.
The Super Falcons will be among 12 countries to feature at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Spain In Historic Top Spot
In the current ranking, current women’s world champions Spain are now ranked number one for the first time.
At number two is former FIFA women’s World Cup winners USA, France occupy the third spot, England remain fourth and Sweden drop to fifth.
First 2024 Release
The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be released in March 2024.
Unlike the monthly ranking for men National teams, FIFA releases women ranking every three months.
