The Young Progressives Party (YPP) House of Assembly aspirant in Anambra State, Prince Chibuike Echem has been kidnapped.
Heritage Times (HT) gathered that Mr. Echem was kidnapped on Saturday in Anambra State by unknown gunmen.
His abductors are reportedly demanding the sum of 50 million Naira for his release.
The frontline aspirant is vying to represent Orumba South Constituency in Anambra State.
According to Echem’s campaign team, he is running for office to salvage the people of Orumba South from poor representation witnessed in the past 4 years.
The police command in Anambra State is yet to confirm or comment on Echem’s abduction.
It is worthwhile to note that kidnapping in Nigeria’s South East region has dramatically increased in the past few months, an ugly trend which conflates with pocket of attacks carried out by unidentified armed men.
Authorities finger proscribed separatist group – the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for increasing violence in the region.
However, IPOB which is campaigning for a breakaway state, has repeatedly denied involvement in recent attacks and abductions.
