World football governing body, FIFA, has slammed former Cameroon international and President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, with a ban.
According to FIFA, the ban is meant to last for six months.
This was disclosed by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee in a statement on Monday.
Confirmation
Part of the statement reads, “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, with a six-month ban from attending matches of Cameroonian representative teams for violation of Articles 13 (Offensive behaviour and violation of the principles of fair play) and 14 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”
The violation, FIFA said, was during the recent U-20 Women’s World Cup, where his national team faced Brazil in the round of 16.
The match was between Brazil and Cameroon, which held on September 11, 2024 in Bogotá, Colombia.
Immediate Consequences
As a result, Eto’o will be prohibited from attending any matches involving Cameroon’s national teams, both male and female, across all age groups.
“Mr Eto’o has been notified today, the date on which the sanction comes into force,” the FIFA statement added.
Branded For Controversies
Eto’o known for some controversial behaviours, previously drew attention for his action towards players and national team coach Marc Brys.
He had threatened the manager publicly not to violate his orders.
During the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the former Real Madrid, Mallorca, and Barcelona player made headlines again after assaulting a fan who filmed him outside a stadium after a match.
