Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has picked 37-year-old Engineer, Omobayo Godwin as his deputy, hours after the impeachment of Philip Shaibu.
Omobayo’s inauguration is also set to take place on Monday at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.
The 37-year-old has a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), preparing for the role of a professional and an expert in public administration.
He is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Shaibu, the Deputy Governor Edo State in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, was impeached by the state’s House of Assembly earlier on Monday.
The embattled Shaibu who has been at loggerheads with his boss – Governor Obaseki, was impeached following the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state Chief Judge to probe allegations of misconduct against him.

The panel which was headed by Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.), ended its sitting on Friday after Shaibu failed to appear before it.
He was probed on allegations of perjury and leaking of government’s secrets.
Heritage Times HT reports that the Governor and Shaibu fell apart after the former failed to declare his support for the deputy governor’s governorship ambition.
This led to the plot to impeach the deputy governor last week.
In his move to halt the impeachment proceedings, Shaibu served Obaseki and the House of Assembly an originating summons in the case.
It was gathered that the security at the Government House had earlier sent away the bailiff, but Shaibu succeeded in getting the summons to the governor by courier.
