The Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) has threatened to shut down the country’s airports in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), if the Nigerian Government does not take necessary steps to address the demands of the striking varsity lecturers.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary, Abdulrasaq Saidu, the workers called on President Muhammadu Buhari to end the four-month old strike without further delay.
They expressed worry that the strike action had turned the Nigerian educational system into a subject of ridicule.
It would be recalled that ASUU had on February 14, 2022, embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their unresolved demands on the Nigerian Government.
The Union had further extended its ongoing strike by another 12 weeks on May 9 to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues after an extension on March 14 due to an alleged lack of seriousness on the part of the Nigerian Government.
