In our journey to nationhood, we have failed in every chance to take the right turn whose path leads to greatness.
We missed the first turn when our Pre-colonial Leaders went into negotiations for our independence with our then Coloniser with a poor sense of nationalism, hence we got a deal that precipitated the dysfunction that now a norm in our body polity.
We missed it when the Federal Side reneged on the accord reached with the Secessionists at Aburi, this bred the unbalance that has characterised our sociopolitical systems and structures.
We missed it again when General Gowon foolishly refused to implement a structured transition plan to civilians rule.
We missed it when Major General Buhari truncated Democratic rule with the over throw of the civilian government of President Shagari.
Another turn was missed when Military President Babangida deceitfully passed the baton of power to his old friend General Abacha, that was a bad turn.
We took a wrong turn when President Goodluck lost the elections of 2015 with heavy interference from Washington and her Cousins, with the aid of willing local hands of course.
We missed it again with the return of President Buhari as President in the most contentious electoral exercise in the history of modern Nigeria.
We might be rewarded with a destitute of state if we fail to activate citizen action and re-domicile power back to the people. Just like every other moments in time presented to us to morph into a Nation-State, fate might take a chance with us one more time. What we do as a people with that chance will define our place and destiny as a nation.
At least we should remember; it was a missed turn that precipitated the First World War.
