The Nigerian Police says an officer of the Force seen carrying a food tray for a VIP at a party in a viral video has been identified and summoned to its headquarters in Abuja.
In the video which has gone viral on social media, the policeman attached to the female VIP was seen carrying a tray crowded with food behind her as she exchanged pleasantries with another woman at a society function.
A closer look at the policeman’s uniform indicates his name is Yahaya Abubakar.
Many Nigerians have been outraged by the act, noting that the presence of the police officer and the “maid” duties he assumed at the party defeated the purpose of attaching orderlies to prominent persons.
What the police is saying:
A statement issued by the acting Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Muyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday noted that police authorities are probing the viral Video.
According to him: “He (the policeman) has been identified. He is coming to Abuja to meet us. We’ll ask him questions and take the necessary action. We need to discourage such a thing because it is embarrassing the image of the Force and we can’t continue to be experiencing that kind of a thing because it is highly unprofessional.”
The Force went on to warn its operatives attached to Very Important Persons all over the country to stop serving purposes other than protecting prominent individuals from security threats.
