Andy Ruiz Jr believes Anthony Joshua does have the ability to outbox Oleksandr Usyk in their upcoming rematch.
Ruiz Jr famously floored Joshua four times when they first met at Madison Square Garden in June 2019, but the Mexican-American underdog is aware of Joshua’s capability to adapt to overcome adversity having been immediately dethroned by the Brit in their own return bout same year.
Ruiz Jr stopped the champion to take his titles, but was then forced to face him again as AJ activated his contractual rematch clause.
As a result, the Brit was able to comfortably box to a unanimous decision victory as he switched up his game plan completely and pulled off an impressive win six months later.
However, AJ was defeated by Usyk in their first fight and many are urging him to be more aggressive in pursuit of a knockout second time around.
“I think Joshua could pull it off,” Ruiz Jr told ESNews.
“I think he needs to go in there and be aggressive, just like how he was from the beginning.
“Not let them dictate the fight.
“As long as he’s doing the pressure, throwing a lot of combinations, not letting Usyk get comfortable and throwing his little slick shots, I think he can win.”
