The Nigerian government has announced the commencement of a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda travelling into the country.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) disclosed that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to implement the new directive across the nation’s international entry points.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Service Public Relations Officer of the NIS, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, said the policy followed President Bola Tinubu’s announcement during the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.
According to Akinlabi, the decision was taken as a reciprocal gesture after the Rwandan government granted similar visa-free access to Nigerian citizens visiting Rwanda.
Under the arrangement, Rwandan nationals will be permitted to enter Nigeria without a visa for a maximum period of 30 days for legitimate purposes, including tourism, business activities and official engagements.
He, however, clarified that Rwandans seeking to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved period would be required to obtain the appropriate visa either through a Nigerian Embassy or High Commission abroad, or via the Nigeria e-Visa platform.
The immigration spokesman added that the directive had already been communicated to all international entry points, including airports, land borders and seaports, for immediate implementation.
Akinlabi noted that the initiative underscored the growing diplomatic and bilateral ties between Nigeria and Rwanda, while also advancing intra-African mobility, tourism and economic collaboration in line with continental integration goals.
“The Service remains committed to facilitating safe, orderly and lawful migration in accordance with international best practices and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” he stated.
