Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have renewed their strong support for Ukraine as the war with Russia reached its fourth anniversary, reaffirming commitment to Kyiv’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States declared their “unwavering support” for Ukraine, stressing the country’s right to exist as a free and sovereign nation amid continued hostilities.
The statement also expressed endorsement of efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to advance a peace process aimed at bringing both sides into direct negotiations. According to the leaders, European countries are expected to play a central role in facilitating diplomatic engagement, alongside other international partners.
Emphasising the path toward conflict resolution, the G7 noted that a lasting peace agreement can only be achieved through good-faith negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Beyond diplomatic efforts, the bloc highlighted ongoing humanitarian and economic assistance to Ukraine, particularly support designed to help the country withstand winter conditions. This includes the delivery of more than 2,500 generators and critical energy equipment to stabilise power supply amid continued attacks on infrastructure. The leaders also announced over €500 million in new pledges to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The G7 further reiterated its commitment to nuclear safety measures, including fundraising initiatives for the rehabilitation of the Chornobyl containment arch. In addition, the group backed international efforts seeking the immediate, safe, and unconditional return of Ukrainian children displaced during the conflict.
