The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned the deadly shooting attack at Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, which targeted members of the Jewish community and left at least 15 people dead, with several others injured.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria described the incident as a heinous and senseless act of violence that underscores the growing threat posed by terrorism, violent extremism and hate-driven attacks worldwide.
Nigeria extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Australia, as well as to the families and loved ones of the victims, while wishing those injured a swift and full recovery. The Federal Government expressed solidarity with all those affected by the tragedy, noting that such acts of violence offend shared human values and undermine peaceful coexistence.
The statement stressed that terrorism, antisemitism and hate-motivated violence in all their forms constitute a grave global menace that threatens international peace, social cohesion and human dignity. It warned that attacks targeting communities based on religion, ethnicity or identity highlight the urgent need for stronger international cooperation, intelligence sharing and collective resolve to confront violent extremism.
Nigeria reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the global fight against terrorism, extremism and intolerance, and reiterated its support for international initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, justice and mutual respect among nations and peoples. The government emphasized that no society should be subjected to violence on the basis of faith or identity, adding that safeguarding diversity and inclusion remains central to global stability.
The Federal Government further called on the international community to remain united in rejecting violence and advancing coordinated action to ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice. It also stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of extremism through dialogue, inclusion, education and respect for human dignity.
Nigeria therefore noted that it stands firmly with Australia and the wider international community in condemning the attack and renewing collective efforts to combat terrorism and all forms of violent hatred across the world.
