A Nigerian national, identified as Patrick Nonso, has been arrested at Freetown International Airport after authorities allegedly discovered 46 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine in his possession.
The arrest took place during routine security checks at the airport. According to law enforcement officials, Nonso was carrying an Italian passport at the time he was apprehended. He was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently cooperating with investigators as they work to determine the origin and intended destination of the suspected narcotics, as well as whether other individuals may be connected to the case. Forensic examinations are ongoing to verify the exact composition and weight of the seized substance.
The incident has renewed concerns among security agencies over Sierra Leone’s growing vulnerability to international cocaine trafficking networks. Authorities have increasingly warned that West Africa is being targeted as a transit corridor for illicit drugs destined for Europe and other global markets.
Meanwhile, local media reports that the Sierra Leone Police maintained that investigations remain active and assured the public that further updates will be provided as new details emerge.
