Spurs booked their place in the Carabao Cup final after an emphatic 2 – 0 victory over Brentford on Tuesday night.
Goals from Moussa Sissoko and in-form striker Heung-Min Son handed Jose Mourinho’s men a first shot at a silverware under the Portuguese tactician, who has obviously transformed the side into title contenders in his second spell.
Mourinho has never led a side through a second spell without winning a trophy. The 57-year-old manager did it during his time at FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United and there are chances history might repeat itself this time with the north London club.
Despite his team’s high-flying form at the beginning of the season; which has seen them beat elite clubs like Manchester United and Manchester United, the the former Chelsea manager in his usual fashion, played down hopes of winning any title for now.
“People cannot expect us to come here and after one season we are fighting for the title,” Mourinho told SkySport after Spurs 2 – 0 victory over Man City in the Premier League.
“We are not fighting for the title, we are just fighting to win every match. But we are going to lose matches, we are going to draw matches.
Spurs seemed to have lost momentum as the second half of the season approached, registering just two wins from their last six games before the EFL tie against Brentford.
They currently occupy the fourth position on the Premier League table with 29 points, four behind leaders Liverpool with a game at hand.
There are possibilities that Mourinho could end a 13-year-wait a after all as his side remain in contention for a silverware this season, owing to a well-deserved qualification for the Europa league round of 32 and a FA Cup third round clash against Marine AFC.
