An outbreak of Cholera in Bauchi State, Nigeria has killed no fewer than 20 people, the state government has disclosed.
According to the Commissioner of Health in the state, Dr. Aliyu Maigoro, who disclosed this at a press conference held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Bauchi on Tuesday, the index case was a 37- year- old housewife, who was admitted at the Burra General Hospital on April 24, 2021 in Ningi Local Government Area.
He said upon her admission, it was discovered there is an ongoing outbreak of similar disease in neighbouring communities like Sumaila and other Local Government Areas of Kano State, which may have spread to Bauchi.
In 2015, over 200 persons were also admitted due to a Cholera outbreak that affected the Shira Local Government Area of the state. Bakul, Dunmagari and Gallari, communities were also affected in the 2015 outbreak.
