Nigeria’s National Assembly entered a rowdy session during Thursday’s plenary over the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Trouble however started after some lawmakers protested over the alleged reduction in the approved percentage accruing to host communities in the Niger Delta.
Recall, the house had earlier voted 5% for host communities in the PIB earlier passed, while the Senate passed 3%.
But during Thursday’s plenary, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, Chinyere Igwe, created a scene when he protested by shouting on top of his voice over the alleged reduction of the percentage for host communities from 5% to 3% after the conference committee of both the Senate and the House of Representatives harmonised the document.
“It must be 5%,” he roared before the arrival of the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The rowdy session still ensued even with the arrival of the Speaker, forcing him to ask the House to go for an executive session.
The lawmakers are currently in for the executive session.
