Nollywood actress, Destiny Etiko has gifted herself a grand mansion to mark her 32nd birthday.
Taking to her Instagram page to announce the development, Etiko shared photos of the house with the caption “A Birthday Gift from me to me”
The acquisition of the massive structure located in the Coal City, Enugu State sparked reactions on social media particularly on the disparity between the successes of female actress and male actors in Nollywood.
While some Nigerians celebrated her new achievement, others could not help wondering if there is a gender pay gap in the industry and why the development persists.
One Tweep wrote: “Lol. Again, it’s only the females cashing out from the movies.”
Another said: “This gender pay gap in Nollywood needs to be addressed.
“Na only women dey buy cars, houses? Are the men not successful enough to buy these things?”
Also commenting, a Twitter influencer, Yemi Hazan, aired his displeasure about the disparity, stressing that: “Can’t remember the last time an actor bought a mansion for himself… We keep unlooking the massive gender pay gap in Nollywood.. unfair.”
