After reciprocal actions from the Nigerian Government and wide condemnation from other African leaders, the UK Government has confirmed that it is scrapping the red list for international travel.
The directive will take effect from 4am Wednesday, December 15.
UK’s Secretary of Health, Sajid Javid, in the House of Commons on Tuesday announced the decision.
According to him, all 11 African countries including Nigeria will be removed from the UK’s travel red list.
Countries on the red list are Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The move comes in response to the rapid global spread of the omicron coronavirus variant.
