Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App, was tragically killed in a senseless attack in San Francisco earlier today.
According to sources, Lee was stabbed in what appears to be a random mugging outside a luxury apartment complex on Main St, near the Bay Bridge.
Despite the best efforts of first responders, the 43-year-old executive passed away in the hospital from his injuries.
No arrests have been made yet, but investigations are ongoing.
Before his untimely death, Lee had achieved great success in the tech industry, having founded Cash App and served as Chief Technology Officer at Square, which later became Block.
At the time of his passing, he was Chief Product Officer at MobileCoin. Lee’s contributions to Square and Cash App were particularly significant, as Jack Dorsey noted in a heartfelt social media post: “Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App. STL guy.”
Many of Lee’s friends and colleagues in the tech community have expressed their shock and sadness at the news of his passing.
Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, said that Lee was a “force of nature” and that he would be missed every day.
Even those who didn’t know Lee personally, such as MMA fighter Jake Shields, have been moved by the tragedy.
Shields tweeted that Lee appeared to have been the victim of a random mugging while working in a “good part of the city.”
Elon Musk also weighed in on the news, highlighting the issue of violent crime in San Francisco.
He tweeted that he knew many people who had been “severely assaulted” in the city and questioned whether the authorities were taking strong enough action against repeat offenders.
Lee had recently relocated to Miami, according to sources in the San Francisco tech community.
He had only been back in his former hometown for one day when the attack occurred.
His loss is being felt deeply by those who knew him, and his contributions to the tech industry will not be forgotten.
