As part of efforts geared towards promoting local content in the oil and gas industry, Nigeria’s first oil and gas park, constructed by the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has officially opened its doors for business.
The announcement was made by Ginah O. Ginah, General Manager of Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination Division at NCDMB, during a media tour of the park situated in Odukpani, Cross River State.
“After nearly a decade in the making, the park is now fully operational and ready to accommodate manufacturers,” said Ginah, adding that “we have already advertised for interested manufacturers and are presently going through applications to see those who are qualified.”
According to Ginah, the park boasts essential amenities such as a manufacturing hall, security infrastructure, well-maintained roads, 24-hour power supply, banking services, a restaurant, and cutting-edge ICT facilities to ensure a conducive environment for manufacturers.
He went on to note that the park features a fire service, water treatment plant, mini accommodation parks, and free land for those seeking to construct their own structures.
Ginah emphasized that the availability of these facilities within the park will significantly reduce production costs for manufacturers, making it an attractive proposition.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has committed $50 million to attract companies to the park, further enhancing its appeal.
Highlighting NCDMB’s dedication to boosting local content, Ginah revealed that similar parks are currently under construction across the Niger Delta region.
These initiatives are part of NCDMB’s comprehensive strategy to elevate local content in the oil and gas industry and drive Nigeria’s industrialization.
With local content levels already increased from 5% to 55%, NCDMB aims to raise it to an impressive 70% by 2027.
The Board recognizes that achieving this goal requires the local manufacturing of components, which is why the establishment of these parks is of utmost importance.
