Nigerian singers Omah Lay and Tems have regained freedom from police custody in Uganda where they were arrested for violating COVID-19 protocols.
A Ugandan singer, Bebe Cool, broke the news on Tuesday alongside documents confirming their release.
The documents, showed that the singers have been set free following the order of Okumu Jude Muwone, the presiding judge who also doubles as the chief magistrate of Makindye, Kampala.
The release order for Omah Lay reads: “Whereas the accused persons Stanley Omah Didia and Muyiwa Awoniyi were charged with the offence of neglect act likely to spread of infectious disease Section 171 of Penal Code Act.
“The charges against the accused Stanley Omah Didia and Muyiwa Awoniyi has been withdrawn against them by Vide Withdrawal Form Serial No, 4292 dated December 15, 2020.
“This is to direct you to release Muyiwa Awoniyi and Stanley Omah Didia the said accused persons from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges.”

The two fast-rising Nigerian singers, were arrested on Sunday, December 13, 2020 for performing at an ‘unauthorised concert’ and disobeying COVID-19 protocols.
