Portuguese Coach and Roma Manager, Jose Mourinho is in fresh trouble after he reportedly attacked the officiating Referee during the Europa League final against Sevilla on Wednesday May 31, 2023.
Sevilla, a Spanish La Liga club eventually won the match to become a 7th time Europa League champions.
However, organisers of the European competition UEFA has charged Mourinho for using “insulting and abusive language against a match official”.
This was revealed by UEFA in a statement on Friday June 2, 2023.
Beyond Mourinho, the European soccer body also condemned violent actions adding, “UEFA vehemently condemns violent behaviour directed towards its referee Anthony Taylor and his family.”
They are also several charges dished out to both Roma and Sevilla.
Roma were charged with “acts of damage” and “crowd disturbances”, while Sevilla face charges for “invasion of the field of play”.
Both sides were charged with “throwing of objects”, “lighting of fireworks” and “improper conduct of the team”.
“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due course,” the statement added.
Ahead of final matchday fixture against Juventus in Italian Serie A, Roma occupy sixth position on the table with just one point above their opponent this Saturday.
Whatever happens, Roma are, however, guaranteed at least a Europa Conference League place, a tournament they won in 2022.
