Two Nigerian Table Tennis athletes – Aruna Quadri and Offiong Edem Oly have missed the chance of ensuring that Nigeria’s chances of finishing tops at the 13th edition of African Games in Accra, Ghana are brightened.
This was after Omar Assar of Egypt reclaimed the title he surrendered in 2019 after an energy-sapping final against Quadri Aruna of Nigeria.
Tough Battle
Assar played his heart out against one of his arch-rivals in the continent and he prevailed 4-3 to reclaim the title and winning the second gold medal for Egypt at the games.
However, Aruna’s search for his first gold medal in the Men’s Singles continues after the loss in the final.

Considered as the battle of two elephants, the match lived up to expectations with Aruna and Assar entertaining the fans with their superlative display but it was Assar who laughed last to claim the second gold medal for Egypt at the African Games.
Edem Loss, Good For Less Fancied Bronze
Earlier, Edem won Nigeria’s first medal, a bronze in the same sport.
That was after she succumbed to a semi-final defeat against his Egyptian opponent Dina Meshref.
Edem ended this editor’s quest for glory the same way in 2019 at Rabat, Morocco.
