Spaniard top seed Carlos Alcaraz produced a spectacular display to dislodge experienced Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon.
Alcarez’s victory came in straight sets which ensured he won a third Wimbledon and fourth Grand Slam of his career
Alcaraz proved too strong right from the first game and eventually prevailed 6-2 6-2 7-6(4).
There was late drama when the Spaniard let three match points at 40-0 on his own serve slip, but he dusted himself off to come through a tense tie-breaker.
The result continues the four-time major winner’s 100% record in Grand Slam finals, while he becomes the youngest man at 21 to win at Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year.
Though Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Djokovic had won French Open and Wimbledon in the same yea but at older age.
On the other hand, it was second consecutive year 37-year-old Djokovic was attempting to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s titles.
The 24-time major winner was also trying to move ahead of Margaret Court to take sole ownership of the all-time record for the most Grand Slam singles titles.
The result means Djokovic has still not beaten a top-ten player this year and is yet to win a title.
The Serbian will now turn his attention to the Paris Olympics as he seeks to win gold for the first time.
