The Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior Women’s National team, Randy Waldrum, has resigned from his position.
Waldrum who revealed his intention in a letter dated September 12, 2024 said he stepped down due to his wife’s health issues.
Part of the letter reads, “It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons.
“This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
Waldrum ‘s resignation will offer the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ample time to scout for his replacement ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON slated to hold in Morocco next year.
The tournament is slated to hold between July 5 and 25th, 2025.
The American coach was appointed coach of the nine-time Africa champions on October 5, 2020.
In his four years of engagement with the team, Waldrum qualified the team to the 2023 World Cup where they reached the Round of 16 but was eliminated by England in a penalty shootout.
He also led the team to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games, breaking their 16 years jinx of not playing at the quadrennial event.
