The global football community is in mourning following the death of former Cameroon international Emmanuel Kunde.
The legendary centre-back, renowned for his commanding presence and immense contributions to the game over two decades, passed away at the age of 68.
The President of the Cameroon Football Association and former football star, Samuel Eto’o, has paid tribute to the late football icon.
A Stellar Career
Kunde was a key figure in Cameroon’s footballing dominance during the 1980s, a period in which the Indomitable Lions famously tamed Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
He helped his country clinch the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 1984 and again in 1988.
Kunde also represented Cameroon in two FIFA World Cups, in 1982 and 1990. His strength, leadership, and skill were instrumental in guiding the national team to success during a golden era for Cameroonian football.
Notably, he was part of the squad that made history in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, when Cameroon became the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Life After Football
Following his retirement from playing, Kunde remained committed to the game. He transitioned into coaching, taking charge of clubs such as PWD Bamenda, Canon Yaoundé, and US Bitam.
Through coaching, he shared his knowledge and passion for football with younger generations, shaping the sport he cherished.
