Real Madrid have confirmed that Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalized due to acute gastroenteritis as he missed Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal.
According to his club in a statement on Thursday, the star forward is currently undergoing medical tests and treatment to assess the severity of his condition.
The statement added, “Mbappe has an acute case of gastroenteritis” and was admitted to hospital for a series of tests.”
Gastroenteritis is an infection in the gut which can cause vomiting and diarrhoea.
The 26-year-old France captain missed training on Tuesday with a f. ever and did not play in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against the Saudi Arabian side.
Real’s next game is against Pachuca on Sunday night.
