The crisis rocking Libyan football might take a new dimension as Head Coach of the country’s national football, Aliou Cisse, issued a deadline for his resignation if his wages are not paid.
Cisse, who is reportedly yet to receive any pay since he was employed by the Libya Football Federation (LPP), was engaged in March 2025 after coaching Senegal in glory.
His employment was a package which made him the second highest manager in Africa.
Despite the financial stand-off, the 49-year-old tactician has led the Mediterranean Knights in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cameroon.
This monetary muddle isn’t Cisse’s burden alone. His trusted assistant, Youssouph Dabo, is sailing the same stormy seas, having also not seen a pay check since the duo took charge, a source in Libya revealed.
Cisse accepted the Libyan challenge with infectious zeal, inspired by the federation president’s grand vision and the enticing prospect of resurrecting the national team.
His sights were fixed on a lofty goal—securing a berth in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Cisse — whose contract runs until 2027 — has given the authorities a deadline to resolve the issue.
