England on Sunday beat Spain on penalties to win the 2025 Women Euro Championship.
With the victory, the England team, also known as the Lionesses, defended their European title to make history as the first English team to win a major tournament on foreign soil.
It was goalkeeper Hannah Hampton who saved two penalties as the Lionesses triumphed via shootout 3-1, after the match ended 1-1, followed by extra time.
Star player Alessia Russo drew level for England after Mariona Caldentey’s opener for Spain.
Spain dominated possession and were the better of the two teams, but England showed immense resolve to bring themselves back into the game and then drag the game to a penalty shootout.
The Lionesses came back twice to reach the decider in Basel and book this revenge mission against the same side who beat them at the 2023 World Cup in Sydney.
